William ”Bill” Goddard, 74, of New Boston

William A.” Bill” Goddard, 74, 0f New Boston passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, surrounded by Love at SOMC Hospice Center. He was born February 1, 1947 in Portsmouth to the late John and Pearl (Miller) Goddard.

After graduating from Glenwood High School in 1965, he went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Science and Education from Ohio University in 1970. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country for four years before being honorably discharged as a Sargeant in 1974.
Bill worked for the New Boston Fire Department for 23 years retiring in 2000 as Fire Chief. Bill was a standout athlete and loved all sports. Bill was a member of the American Legion Post 23 and New Boston Fraternal Order of Eagles. He will be missed by his family, friends, and dog, Sambo.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 29 years, Mary (Robinson) Goddard; two sons, Christopher Goddard and wife Julie of Minford and Eric Goddard of Knoxville, TN.; a daughter, Michelle Gampp of Minford; three stepdaughters, Julia Conn McBride and Lottie (Jack) Davenport of Myrtle Beach, SC and Donna Guy of Newark; one brother, Roger (Lilo) Goddard of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Tyler Gampp, Travis Gampp and Tanner Gampp; six step-grandchildren, Dalton Davenport, Colton Davenport, Dakota Reiser, Justin Conn, Rosie Guy and Johnna Guy.

The family would like to give a special thanks to his New Boston Class Mates who have been faithful and helpful in spending time with Bill and his family during his illness. Also, thank you to the staff of SOMC Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be may to SOMC Hospice at 2201 25th Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. at D. W. SWICK FUNERAL HOME in New Boston with Brad Angus officiating.

Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace with military honors by James Dickey Post 23, American Legion.
