Why are women more attractive than men?

The statistics, for the most part, are unequivocal: Females are more attractive than males.

That’s been the case throughout human history, so much so that Aristotle was the first to write about it in 350 B.C.

“In two senses, women are beautiful,” he wrote in Politics, “first, for their beauty lies in the beautiful parts of their bodies and the beauty is within, not in their faces and the face is for men; secondly, for their beauty is very spirited and active, and men are not very spirited and active.”

Contemporary science has offered more proof. Men are simply less attractive on average than women. This isn’t something we can control. Patricia Greenfield, a sex therapist, relationship expert, and professor of psychology at Cal State Fullerton said, “This hasn’t changed for thousands of years.”

Whether it’s the genetic basis for this preference or cultural influence, a big part of why women are more attractive than men is something we can’t control.

Research has shown that both men and women tend to prefer women.

A study conducted by John Farrell and Clive Stephens showed that both men and women prefer women who are attractive, have higher levels of education, leadership potential, and personality.

Although men are clearly more visual, both sexes tend to look at the ʺcoreʺ of the female body, not the more exaggerated features. This doesn’t necessarily mean they want the same thing, but both sexes look at this the same way. If you pay close attention you can see which parts a person is actually focused on, either face or body. This is also an indication of oneʺs innate preferences. For example, some people really like the mouth while others focus on the face. This experiment was popularized in the book The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins.

Why Are Women More Attractive Than Men?

Facebook conducts research on the matter.

A new study from scientists at the University of Hawaii looked at participants’ photos from Facebook and measured their attractiveness.

The results? Men rated themselves as more attractive than women did. To the average person, this might seem trivial. The phenomenon has been extensively studied.

Facebook research, for example, concluded that the difference in male and female attractiveness is due to a person’s unique features and goals — not their appearance. Other studies suggest that men value physical traits, like muscle mass and body hair, while women care more about confidence and being a strong partner.

Conclusion

As a white, hairy, and “plump” male, it would be shamefully irresponsible for me to sum up the great minds of Aristotle and the years of scientific research on this matter. Rather, I will conclude with a series of quotes from some of the world’s most adored women.

“A woman is like a tea bag – you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water.”
– Eleanor Roosevelt

“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture, and transform.”
– Diane Mariechild

“People think at the end of the day that a man is the only answer [to fulfillment]. Actually, a job is better for me.”
– Princess Diana

“If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun.”
– Katharine Hepburn
