Ways Community Members Can Build a Pet-Friendly Town
ShareTweetEmail

All in favor of having a pet-friendly town, raise your paws (or hands)! Being in a city surrounded by neighbors with pets creates more opportunities for residents to be social. Whether they’re gushing about their favorite celebrity dog’s social media channel or debating who is the best dog of all, there are lots of ways community members can promote a pet-friendly environment for all animal lovers.

Create Walking Paths Designed for Pets

While running or walking with your four-legged friends, you might grow tired of bumping into the same neighborhoods. Instead of traveling the same block every time you go on a walk, consider starting new paths designed for pets.

Fenced-in walking paths help pets learn to stay with their owners and not run away. Additionally, they help you increase the chances of meeting someone new with a pet on the walking paths. Before setting one up, ensure there’s greenery planted nearby to make an urban area feel more natural.

Start a Community Pet Sitter Database

There are many apps out there that charge you to hire someone to watch your pet. Sometimes, the matches aren’t the best; instead, work with local residents to set up a database designed specifically for pet sitting.

From feeding birds to going on daily walks with a dog or cat, you’ll enjoy knowing that you hired a well-known sitter in the neighborhood instead of a stranger.

Create Pets Zones at the Park

There are many things a park could be missing, including specified areas that could bring in other residents, such as pet owners. Many recreational areas have started installing zones for pets and owners to relax and play.

Creating a dog zone in the park could be just the thing that your park is missing. When creating the dog zone, place an obstacle course and other dog-friendly equipment for pets to use and play on. Additionally, to make the area interactive, install cleanup stations for accidents.

Host Pet Mingling Events

There are many ways for animals and their owners to mingle. An event catered to owners and their pets helps build strong bonds among neighbors and gives pets the chance to interact and develop their own socialization skills.

Hosting an event could be what the community needs to get new residents to explore the area and meet fellow pet owners. Help build connections by holding weekly or monthly pet mingling events.

All who are still in favor of a pet-friendly town and want to find different ways a community member can instill change, raise your paws high! It’s important to get animals to socialize while also learning about the area for yourself. Even if you aren’t new to town, it’s still good to reach out and get to know others to create a pet-friendly town.
