She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Ruth Viney, son Theodore Jones, grandson Walter Tates, brothers James, Raymond, John, and Allen, and sisters Louise, Christine, Jean, Cecelia, Hattie, and Renee. Surviving brothers and sisters are Margaret, Henrietta, Constance, David, Barbara, Carloyn, Francine, Debra, Gwen, Anthony, Doris, and Pat.

She attended Sallards Poing High School in Baltimore County Maryland. Afterward, she received her certificate in Geriatrics and obtained her Certified Nursing Assistant license. She began working private duty and worked at St. Agnes hospital for many years.

Vivian was known for her kind heart and her good cooking. Her specialties were her homemade rolls and candied sweet potatoes. She loved to cook and bake cakes. All you had to do is start cooking and she would jump right in and complete the meal.

Vivian gave her life to the Lord at the young age of 13. She was a lifelong member of Shining Star Baptist Church in Baltimore Maryland. Her love of music for the Lord took her on a Christian journey to many churches. She would never turn down a microphone.

When she decided to move to Ohio with her children, she immediately found a church within a week. She became a faithful member of Eden Baptist Church, Waverly OH, in the following roles; Sunday School, missionary society, choir, trustee board, and deaconess. She attended Eden Baptist for 19 years until her health began to decline. She was Pastor Dean’s Songbird. First Lady Deborah Dean and Sister Alston developed a very loving relationship.

During her frequent visits to Baltimore, she attended Rhema Worship Center where her nephew, Bishop Allen Williams served as the pastor. She always volunteered to work, sing, cook and do anything to help because this was the type of Christian she was. She was willing to work in any church for her Lord.

Her faith in God sustained her and was her hope in all things.

Psalm 100

Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the Lord he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; his truth endureth to all generations.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Eden Baptist Church in Waverly. Burial will follow in Eden Baptist Cemetery on Nipgen Road, Waverly. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
