Meet the River Days Candidates: Miss Valley, Tory Donini

In a recent interview, I was able to speak with Tory Donini, who has been elected by Valley High School to serve as their River Days candidate.

Tory stated that her motivation for being Miss Valley is that she has always wanted to be a role model for younger girls.

Tory’s platform for her campaign is Focus is Key: Start your Engine with Distracted Driving. She says that the goal of the platform is to educate the public on the dangers of distracted driving and hopefully prevent it.

Tory also talked to me about the theme for her float, which is titled Port Portsmouth. The float is going to be designed in the style of a tugboat, with a painting of Portsmouth serving as the backdrop.

Valley has been very supportive of Tory’s fundraising efforts so far, which is a major aspect of a River Days campaign in general. So far, Tory has done a jean fundraiser and was in the middle of a March Madness fundraiser when March Madness was canceled. Luckily, the community at Valley has let Tory keep the money she made in her fundraiser in the form of donations, which Tory is very thankful for.

At the end of our interview, I asked Tory if the extended spring break that Governor DeWine has mandated will impact her campaign in any way. She told me while it is a setback, she expects that her campaign will still be able to build its float and fundraise with plenty of time.
