Portsmouth, Ohio- A teen reports his mom to the cops for being rude, a citizen says a garbage collector threw a can at his truck, and a bunch of suspicious characters keep PPD busy. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Trashy Behavior

  • A Vinton Street caller contacted police just after midnight to report a man digging through a dumpster and tossing items into the street. The caller said if the police didn’t hurry up and get there, he’d take care of the person himself since he needed to get a good night’s sleep. Police said the dumpster diver left on his own.
  • At 1:48 pm, a Dorman Drive caller claimed a city garbage collector threw a trash can that struck his truck. Police said they would contact the city manager’s office.

Suspicious Activity

  • Twenty minutes later, a High Street caller reported a man carrying a bunch of stuff who went between two houses. Officers could not locate him.
  • At 1:35 am, another Vinton Avenue resident reported a suspicious truck in front of her home. She said the people in the vehicle were littering and appeared to be in the process of a drug deal. Officers discovered all three people in the vehicle had open warrants. Police took them into custody and arranged for a tow for the truck.
  • At 7:37 am, a Mabert Road caller said a man and a woman attempted to get into vacant houses. Police could not locate the pair.
  • A Center Street caller reported three men in an abandoned building. Police took two men to jail and sent for an ambulance for the third.

Parking Crackdown

  • Officers continued PPD’s parking crackdown at 7:25 am and towed a vehicle with fictitious tags parked on Mabert Road.
  • At 8:16, police arranged for a tow for a vehicle sitting on jack stands with no front tired on Mabert Road. Police said the tags were fictitious. The officer noted PPD towed the vehicle exactly one year to the day previously for not having tags.

Hey! That’s My Stuff!

  • Police took a suspected shoplifter into custody at Kroger just before 11 am.
  • At 11:08 am, a 29th Street caller reported a case of identity theft. Someone filed for unemployment benefits with her information. Police took information for a report.
  • A man contacted the police at 1 pm to report a stolen phone. He said another man took it earlier in the week in Wayne Hills. Conveniently, the alleged thief is already locked up in the Scioto County Jail. Police said they’d check to see if the phone was among the inmate’s property.
  • At 5:32 pm, a Thomas Avenue caller reported a slashed tire on their SUV. Police took information for a report.
  • A woman stole a buggy full of items from Big Lots at 6:40 pm. Police took information for a report.

Under The Influence

  • A Grandview Avenue caller reported illegal drug activity in the area at 11:41 am. The caller identified a man who allegedly sells drugs on the corner. The caller said a white SUV resupplies the guy, who never wears a shirt, on a regular basis. Police took information for a report.
  • A highly intoxicated man fell on 11th Street at 1:24 pm. He refused medical treatment. His wife came to get him.
  • Officer responded to the Royal Inn for a report of an apparently high man screaming at people. Police could not locate him.
  • An apparently high man called the police to report his life was in danger and someone was impersonating him. He declined medical treatment.

Out of Control

Just before 6 pm, police investigated a report of a man acting oddly at the Fishbowl on Campbell Avenue. Witnesses said he yelled at people, told them to come to his vehicle, and then reached down behind the seat.
