Shots rang out during a Summit Street Home Invasion and officers pull over a hot-rodding teenage driver. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Teen Caught Hot Rodding on Kinneys Lane
Police pulled over a Red Dodge Charger on Kinneys Lane at 4 pm.
They said there were no visible plates on the car and that the driver was hot-rodding. The teen driver gunned the accelerator at the turn to 11th and Chillicothe and spun the tires.
The officers spoke to the teen’s father on the phone and issued a warning.
Fight on 7th Street
At 5:28 pm, a caller reported three men fighting at the corner of Chillicothe and 7th Street. One walked off towards Toro Loco and the other towards 6th Street.
Police spoke with the men who advised they did not need the police.
Worried Daughter
A worried daughter contacted the police at 7:30 pm and asked them to check on the welfare of her 82-year-old mother. She’d been trying to reach her but the home phone rang busy and her cell went to voicemail.
Officers checked in on the woman who was just fine.
Officers Help Man on Bridge
Worried witnesses spotted a tattooed man in shorts leaning across the rail of the Grant Bridge at 6:22 pm.
Officers spoke to the man who said he just wanted to look at the water. They gave him a ride to the Salvation Army.
Shots Fired During Summit Street Home Invasion
Five units rolled to the scene when a Summit Street caller reported gunshots inside an apartment at 11:24 pm.
The caller said no one was injured but someone had kicked in their door and shot the place up.
Police called for an ambulance and had SOMC stand by in case of injuries.
When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the door was broken beyond repair. The witnesses and suspects had all fled the scene. Police noted several contraband items and impounded them.
