An out-of-control man swinging a shovel caused quite a panic in Wayne Hills. The first call came into dispatch at 8:21 am. A witness reported a shirtless older man standing at the top of the stairs across from the rental office. According to reports, the man was swinging a shovel and yelling.
About seven minutes later, the man called the police from the Oasis Convenience Mart on 17th Street. He claimed between forty and fifty people were following him.
Police headed out to the store to speak with the man. He claimed that a large group of escaped convicts from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility was following him with baseball bats.
He got agitated and wanted to know why officers were taking him into custody when he didn’t steal anything. Police detained the man due to his altered mental status and transported him to s/omc for treatment.
