The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office busted an Oak Hill man for a robbery at the Pump n’ Shop in Wheelersburg.  The Sheriff said Jeffrey L Delaney, 31, is the man pictured in surveillance photos of the November 30 robbery.

A masked robber in an Ohio State hoodie went into Clarks Pump N Shop gas station on Center Street around 10:30 pm on Monday, November 30.  A clerk told deputies he bought a pack of gum. When she closed the register after the sale, the man demanded she open up the cash register and give him all of the money. She complied and he fled on foot with the cash across the parking lot before leaving in a vehicle. The clerk reported he left heading west on Ohio River Road.

Taken Into Custody

Just a few hours after the sheriff’s office asked for help in identifying the suspect, they caught their man.  Detective Jodi Conkel led a team that interviewed witnesses, watched surveillance videos, and collected evidence. Investigators pinpointed a possible suspect in Oak Hill.

The Jackson County Sheriff assisted with locating Delaney at his residence on Franklin Valley Rd in Oak Hill. Officers transported him back to Scioto County. Officers charged Delaney with robbery and served with two bench warrants for driving under suspension.  The court set bond at $81,000. Portsmouth Municipal Court Judge Steven L. Mowery scheduled his preliminary hearing for  December 10 ad 9:30 am.

Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini stated the quick arrest was the result of the joint effort between the deputies, detectives, Jackson County Deputies,  and the community that assisted in this case.

Back in 2008, the court convicted Delaney of obstruction of official business and sentenced him to 20 days in jail. The court suspended the sentence. In September of that year, he faced a charge of criminal damaging. That warrant was later withdrawn.

The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Detective Jodi Conkel @ 740-351-1091. All calls will remain confidential.
