PPD Officers Deliver Tragic News

Portsmouth Officers were faced with the tough duty of informing a man both his wife and baby had died on Wednesday. They also dealt with a seemingly unending string of overdoses. Under The Influence

  • Just after 1 am, officers responded to Wendy’s on Gallia for a report of a man passed out behind the wheel of a truck. The truck was towed.
  • Police answered a report of an overdose at 2:41 am on 17th Street. That call led to the discovery of two people with warrants. Probation was called to the scene and a vehicle was towed.
  • Police were called to the Happy Pot at 2:30 pm for a report of a woman overdosing.
  • A caller reported a man had overdosed and was lying on 11th street just before 4:30 pm. A second caller reported he was now moving around and acting high. The fire department took him to the hospital for narcotics use and overheating. Police impounded a backpack with a large amount of cash inside.
  • At 4:44 pm, Porter Township requested assistance with an overdose patient.
  • PPD assisted with another overdose at 6:30 pm. This time it was a woman on 6th Street. She was taken to SOMC by the fire department.
  • A caller reported a man selling pills in the parking lot of the Oasis Convenient Mart just after 10 pm. The caller claimed to have watched the drug deal. The parties were gone when police arrived.
  • Officers responded to a report of a man twitching behind the wheel of a car on 9th Street. Police picked him up but the jail refused to accept him. He was issued a citation to appear in court.

Gone Fishing

Officers responded to Doyle Landing for a report of a man sleeping in his parked vehicle. He explained he’d just finished up fishing and was too tired to drive. He promised to leave by sunrise.

Something’s Burning

Police were called to the Royal Inn on Kendall for a report of something burning just before 10 am. Turned out to just be someone smoking.

Hey That’s My Stuff

  • At 10:30 am, an unlucky man reported that his car was broken into while he was in the hospital. Several items were stolen. He had camera footage of the crime but it was poor quality.
  • A man wanted an officer to accompany him to get his mother’s ring back from a woman on Mound Street. He claimed she stole it from his house in Jackson. She said she couldn’t find the ring. Officers advised him to file a police report in Jackson.

Everything’s Fine

A caller reported a man attempting to break into a box on the stage in Tracy Park at 6:45 pm. It turned out to be a man charging his phone while setting up for a Narcotics Anonymous meeting.

Left Behind

Just before 7 pm, a woman called police to the Save A Lot on Gallia. She said her boyfriend took off with her grandmother’s vehicle and left her and her child in the parking lot.

Police found the guy and told him to bring it back to the woman to avoid having a report filed.

Mom, Baby Die After Crash

PPD officers faced a sad duty just before 9 pm. They had to break the devastating news to a man staying at the Holiday Inn.  He was involved in a crash with his pregnant wife in Lewis County. According to the Kentucky Highway Patrol, the vehicle attempted to pass a tractor-trailer and crashed into a UPS truck.

She was transported to SOMC for an emergency C-Section and then to Grant Hospital. The child died after the C-section and the woman died at Grant Hospital. Police had to advise him that both had passed.
