Portsmouth, Ohio Police Officers caught a burglar in the act, helped a family in crisis, and dealt with a shoplifter who liked something so much he stole it twice. We hit the highlights of the police log in these next 10 slides.

Keep It Down

  • Just after midnight at 5th Street caller reported a large, loud party. Police spoke with the tenant and advised them to turn down the music.
  • At exactly the same time, over on 13th Street, another caller reported a loud party. However, officers couldn’t find the party.
  • At 1:12 am, officers answered another loud music/noise complaint at a Highland Avenue home. Once again, they advised folks to turn down the music.
  • Just after 2 am, were called back to 5th street for another loud party complaint.

Meanwhile at Speedway

Police were called to Speedway just before 6 am for a report involving a man they frequently have to remove from the store.

He claimed 5 men jumped him in Wayne Hills, though he showed no outward signs of injury. He didn’t want to file a report.

Dogs Running Loose

At 6:33 am, police got a call about a pack of 5 dogs running loose near River Run Healthcare. The dogs prevented employees from leaving the building.

Officers spoke to the dogs’ owners.

Grand Theft Auto

A Gallia Street woman notified police around 10:30 am that her brother-in-law stole her truck. She said the theft happened a few weeks ago but she didn’t want to report until she information on the vehicle’s location.

She said the vehicle was on Charles Street near Spartan Stadium. Police checked the area but couldn’t find it.

Since the vehicle was registered in both the caller and her husband’s name, officers checked in with the husband in his cell at the Scioto County Jail. He said he’d last seen the vehicle on September 8. He heard from a third party that his brother took the vehicle without permission.

Police took information for a report.

Help Needed

EMS and PPD responded to Farley Court to help out a woman in need. The 500 lb woman fell while a caregiver was attempting to move her from the bed.

Family In Crisis

For the third day in a row, officers were back at a home where a family is struggling to care for a woman after a stroke. She’s unable to walk and upset at her family because she feels they’re hurting her when they attempt to transfer her.

Under The Influence

  • Officers answered a report of a woman lying in the Speedway parking lot with a bag of pills beside her at 12:20 pm. They advised her to leave the property. Ā Just before 2 pm, they got another call about her lying in the grass between Verizon and Burger King on Gallia. She refused to speak to the police or the fire department.
  • Police received a call from a construction worker who observed a man and a woman using drugs at the 16 Street Apartments just after 4 pm. Police could not locate the suspects.
  • At 10:10 pm, a caller reported an apparently high woman knocking on doors on Dorman Drive asking for jumper cables. Police could not locate her.
  • Police received a call about a ā€˜methhead’ yelling and screaming at people on the Scioto Trail at 10:44 pm. It was a guy police deal with on almost a daily basis.
  • A caller reported an overdose on 20th Street at 11:11 pm. The man refused medical assistance.

If At First, You Don’t Succeed

Police got a call about a shoplifter at the AT&T Wireless on Gallia at 2:30 pm. A man left the store with an item and the store caught him on video.

An employee told police the same man stole the same item last week. Police took information for a report.

Man at the Mailbox

Police received a report of a man attempting to get into a mailbox with a knife on Wayne Avenue at 5:30 pm. It turned out the owner of the mailbox lost her key and asked the man to assist her.

Police advised her that’s not the proper way to access a mailbox.

Burglary In Progress

Police responded to a report of a burglary in process on Coolidge at 9:40 pm. The resident, who was not home, said a neighbor advised her people were moving items out of her house and loading them into a pickup truck.

The woman was over an hour away. When police arrived on the scene, they took one person into custody and secured the residence as best they could.
