Portsmouth, Ohio Police Officers had an unusual mix of calls on Wednesday. From a man covered in blood running down Gallia Street to a family argument over a copy of a photograph, we break down the highlights in these next 11 slides.
Suspicious Persons
- Just after midnight, a 5th Street caller reported people moving around outside an abandoned house and carrying items down the road. Â An officer discovered that a door to the house was open.
- At 12:33 am, officers responded to a report of someone running in the street on Gallia. No one was there when they arrived five minutes later.
- A caller reported a possible peeping tom hanging around a Kendall Avenue Apartment. Police couldn’t locate the suspect.
Late Night Home Repair
At 12:17 am, a Mabert Road caller reported people hanging siding on a house. Officers advised them to stop.
Under The Influence
- Officers answered a call about two men passed out inside a green Ford Ranger just after 2 am. On Mabert Road. Officers took two men into custody.
- A caller reported a man passed out in a truck with candy in his mouth at JJ’s Convenient Mart just after 4 pm. Police took him to the County Jail.
- Police responded to a call about a possible OD on 9th Street at 4:43 pm. The victim was transported to SOMC.
- A caller reported drug use in a Toyota at Big Lots just before 6 pm. The vehicle was gone when police arrived.
- At 6 pm, a caller reported me two men shooting up on the porch of a 17th Street apartment. They were also gone when police arrived.
- Officers responded to a report of a stove on fire on Thomas Avenue at 7:44 pm. Apparently the man in the residence was on drugs and left before police arrived.
Alarming Situations
- Officers responded to an alarm at Gateway Church on 6th Street at 5:30 am. Everything appeared secure, but the back fence was unlocked.
- The front motion alarm at Aldi went off at 6:15 am. An employee accidentally set it off.
- Another alarm sounded at the Counseling Center on Washington Street at 7:43 am. It turned out to just be employees opening the place up.
- A panic alarm sounded at a 2nd Street residence at 7:49 am. Officers got no answer at the door but said they didn’t see or hear anything suspicious and the residence appeared secure.
- Five minutes later an alarm went off at Brain Freeze on 2nd Street. A contractor accidentally set it off. The alarm sounded again at 9:52 am. Once again, it was a false alarm.
- A home alarm went off at 11:39 am on Coles Ridge. It turned out to be a false alarm.
- Contractors accidentally set off a fire alarm at KDMC at 1:07 pm.
- A 17th Street homeowner accidentally set off a residential alarm at 3:50 pm.
Meanwhile at Speedway
Two brothers, famous for their Gallia Street panhandling were at it early. The manager at Speedway reported them bumming money in the parking lot at 7:24 am.
Officers caught up with one brother at the Valero and read him his rights. Police took information for a report.
At 11 am, the other brother was back at the Speedway. Officers said if they ran into him they would do their best to remind him that he’s trespassed from Speedway property. However, he’s hearing impaired and it can be difficult to communicate with him.
Helping Hand
Officers responded to a report of an older man in a lot of a Grandview Avenue Church just before 10 am. The caller said the man had patches on him that looked as if he’d just left the hospital.
When an officer checked on him, he admitted he was having trouble breathing but didn’t want medical assistance. An officer gave him a ride to his brother’s house.
Family Feuds
- At 2 pm, a woman called to complain her brother hid her mother’s ATM card and that all three were arguing over the matter. Police advised it was civil.
- Another family squabble prompted a call to police just after 2 pm. A woman said her sister-in-law refused to give her a picture of her mother. Police settled the disagreement by having the woman’s brother promise to make a copy of the photo.
Vehicle Thefts
- A Kendall Avenue caller reported the battery stolen right out of her Jeep at 2:19 pm. The thief also took a set of jumper cables.
- At 4:54 pm, a caller reported someone broke into her vehicle at the Paramount Beauty Academy and sole the title. Officers too information for a report.
- A caller reported their 2000 Toyota missing from City Cutz at 5:02 pm.
Bloody Mess
Police answered a call to Gallia street for a report of a man covered in blood with sores on his face running down the street screaming for someone to call the police just before 11 pm. They found him at the Family Dollar next to Big Lots.
Police said he had not been assaulted. He got the injuries running through the woods and just wanted a ride back to his motel. Police took him to the Royal Inn and advised him to stay inside for the night.
Just Playing Around
Officers answered a call to the Valero Gas on Gallia at 9:22 pm. The caller reported a man and woman sitting on the lot. The man appeared to be having a seizure. The couple told police they were just taking a break after dumpster diving. Officers escorted them back to their room at the Royal Inn.
Trashy Behavior
- Police responded to Kendall Avenue at 9:40 pm for a report of men digging through trash. Police advised them to put all of the trash back in the containers and move on.
- Officers answered a call to 3rd Street at 10 pm for a report of a man in a bucket hat digging through a dumpster. He was gone when they arrived.
