Portsmouth, Ohio Police Officers went out of their way to look out for the city’s homeless population during the bad weather.  Plus they gave some unruly kids a good talking to. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Keeping Folks Safe In The Cold

  • Just before 4 am, police received a report from Kendall Avenue of a man out in the snow yelling. Police said he appeared to be under the influence and took him into custody for intoxication and disorderly conduct. The jail refused to accept him. Since the weather was below freezing, police called the rescue squad, which transported him to SOMC.
  • Just after 8 pm, police responded to Gallia and Young for a report of a person in the road. Police assisted the person.
  • At 8:26 am, an officer checked in on a pair of brothers who live in a garage on Center Street. One brother was sleeping and has communication issues. He managed to give an officer a thumbs up to indicate all is well. The officer noted he had plenty of covers.
  • A caller asked officers to check the home of a neighbor who was taken away by ambulance just after 9:30 am. Police noted that the home was all secure.
  • Just after noon, police went to Jackson Avenue to check on an 88-year-old woman at the request of her homecare company. Police couldn’t make contact.
  • At 11 pm, officers responded to a report of a man passed out in a vehicle with the door open on Mound Street. Police discovered he had no place to stay. He agreed to go to his parents’ home.

Suspicious Behavior

A 28th Street caller reported people dragging property down an alley and loading it up into an SUV with Florida license plates. She said the subjects had a leaf blower and other items.

Be Good To Grandma

Just before 4 pm, a 3rd Street grandmother reported her granddaughter threatened to beat her windows out. Officers were unable to contact the suspect. However, the grandmother said that now that police were involved, she didn’t think there would be a problem.

PPD responded to another report of kids disrespecting grandma at 11:30 pm, this time on Thomas Avenue. Officers had a good talk with a 5-year-old and 8-year-old regarding how they act towards grandma. The kids agreed to go to bed.
