Portsmouth Police Department Recruitment Exam Scheduled

If you’re interested in becoming a member of the Portsmouth Police Department, the PPD has scheduled the recruitment exam for Friday, March 13 at 4 pm. The test will take place at Scioto County Welcome Center at 342 2nd Street. Folks taking the test will need to show up early, between 3:30 and 3:45 pm and bring a photo ID with them.

New recruits must be between 21 and 41 years of age. But that age can be extended up to age 46 if you have previous law enforcement experience. All recruits must have at least a high school diploma or the equivalent.

To register, you’ll need to fill out the online application and then print it or print the blank application and fill it out in ink. Click here to fill out and print the application.

Applications can be mailed, faxed or dropped off to the Office of City Solicitor, 728 2nd Street, Room 22, Portsmouth, OH 45662. You can drop off during the following dates only:

February 24 – 27.

March 2 – 5.

The office is open weekdays 7 am to 2 pm (closed for lunch between noon and 1 pm). Applications may also be faxed to 740-353-0136 during those same hours.

Qualified veterans of the U.S. Military qualify for a 20% boost in their exam scores. Make sure to attach a complete copy of your DD-214 form with your application to prove honorable discharge from military service. If you don’t attach the form, you will not receive the credit.

Starting pay is $16.40 if an officer has not completed schooling, $20.40 if an officer has completed schooling.
