The latest on a Southern Ohio ecstasy bust. Portsmouth Police and Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a Portsmouth man with an amazing variety of illegal drugs early Thursday morning. Portsmouth Police Chief Debby Brewer and Scioto County Sheriff Marty Donini announced the arrest on Thursday afternoon.
According to law enforcement, it all went down just before 8 am in the 1100 block of 10th Street in Portsmouth. That’s when members of the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force along with Portsmouth Police Department SWAT swooped down on the home and executed a narcotics-related search warrant. Daniel D. Washington, 37, lived at the home.
Mushrooms, Ecstasy, and Cocaine
When officers searched the home and property, they hit the illegal drug jackpot. According to the police, they seized.
- 9 grams of suspected cocaine
- 11 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms
- 6 suspected ecstasy pills
- digital scales
Officials also said there was additional evidence of drug trafficking
Officers arrested Washington was charged him with Trafficking of Drugs within the vicinity of a school and Possession of Drugs. Those crimes are 3rd and 4th-degree felonies respectively.
Police placed Washington in the Scioto County Jail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, September 11, 2020.
The case against Washington will eventually be forwarded to the Scioto County Prosecutor’s Office to be presented to a Scioto County Grand Jury for the consideration of additional felony charges.
The task force made another big bust last week.
Scioto Trail Bust
Last Wednesday, the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force and the Portsmouth Police SWAT swarmed a house on the Scioto Trail. According to a release from law enforcement, 17 adults lived at the home.
Officers discovered and seized:
- 10 grams of an unknown powder
- digital scales
- multiple cell phones
Police said there was obvious evidence of drug abuse all throughout the home.
The Portsmouth City Health Department responded to the scene after a request from task force officers. The health department conducted an inspection, then condemned the home.
