Portsmouth Man Arrested for 39th Time

Portsmouth Police booked a troubled man into the jail for the 39th time and officers leapt into immediate action when a Wayne Avenue caller reported kids in danger. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Under The Influence

  • Just after 12:30 am, a caller reported a group of folks carrying alcohol walking in the middle of Gallia Street. The group yelled at cars as they passed. Police could not locate them.
  • Police responded to a reported of a man and woman fighting at JJ Shenanigans at 1 am. Officers said both parties were intoxicated to the point of falling down but left the scene before police arrived.
  • At 9:18 am, a Gay Street caller reported a man on a bike repeatedly approached him. The man yelled and cussed at the caller. Police spoke to the bicyclist about his behavior.
  • Just after 3 pm, witnesses reported a man screaming traffic on Chillicothe Street. Officers have daily contact with the individual. An ambulance transported him to the hospital, where he was cleared to go to jail. Police booked him into jail for the 39th time.
  • Police responded to the Taco Bell at 9:44 for a report of an apparently high man who pulled down his pants. Officers caught up with him at Big Lots. They said he seemed fine.
  • At 11:16 pm, a man called 911 from the Brew Pub to report people were after him.  When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered he was angry that the bar asked him to leave due to intoxication. A sober friend offered to take him home.

Late Night at the Royal Inn

A caller from the Royal Inn reported a phone stolen at 2:28 am. However, when an officer arrived to the scene, he admitted he might have lost it.

While leaving the Royal Inn at 2:51 am, the officer noticed a man stumbling around the parking lot. The man said he was tired and getting a room at the Inn.

Over at the Four Keys Inn, a manager called police around 4 am to report a woman knocking on doors and screaming in the parking lot. It turned out she was the same woman from the bar fight at JJ Shenanigans. Police advised her to calm down.

No Place To Go

An officer spotted a man driving through the parking lots of closed businesses near the Portsmouth Cinema.

When he spoke to the guy, he learned the man and his son are homeless and living in a vehicle. Since both had valid IDs and no warrants, the officer suggested they got to the homeless shelter.

Kids In Danger

  • Police responded to a Wayne Avenue apartment at 7 am, after a caller heard noises coming from an apartment that led them to believe kids were in danger. Officers notified CPS and made entry into the apartment. They took a man with an open warrant into custody.
  • At 3:25 pm, a caller reported a child in the trunk of a car near the Family Dollar on Gallia. When officers investigated, they discovered the trunk leads to the back seat of the vehicle and the woman was simply playing with the child.

Hey! That’s My Stuff! 

Just after 4 pm, a caller from Kroger reported a stolen wallet. The wallet contained a license, credit cards, and a debit call.

Traffic Stop Turns Up Fentanyl and Heroin 

An 8th Street traffic stop at 5:44 pm turned up dangerous opioids. Officers discovered a white powder that the driver admitted was fentanyl and heroin.

The tags on the vehicle were also fictitious. Police arrested the man.
