Portsmouth, Ohio firefighters came to the rescue of Queen the dog, who found herself trapped in a very undignified position on a cold Monday morning.

Her owner says he got up early and went looking for his best girl, only to find that she managed to get her head stuck in an old metal basket. He did his best to extricate the frightened dog without any luck. He said he tried the tools he had at home, but nothing he had on hand would do the job.

“As a last resort, I called Portsmouth Police. Dispatch told said to try the Portsmouth Fire Department and give me the number. I called and talked to a gentleman and explained what was going on and he said he would get someone here ASAP.

Queen’s owner said he went out onto his porch with his beloved dog in one hand and the metal basket in the other. He didn’t have to wait very long. “I wasn’t out there but like 3 to 4 minutes and they came down my street.”

One of the firefighters tried to cut the metal of the basket with a pair of wire snips, but the snips broke due to the thickness of the metal. That’s when firefighters went for the big guns and came back with a big pair of bolt cutters.  “He cut it, then bent the metal on the basket away from Queen. I want to thank the Portsmouth Fire Department. They came right out and saved Queen’s life.”

Freed from captivity, Queen has returned to ruling the roost at home and is doing fine.
