Portsmouth Police Officers busted a parolee after a high-speed pursuit, and a smoker using an oxygen tank managed to catch their mattress on fire. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Parolee Busted After Hot Pursuit
Officers busted a parolee after a hot pursuit that started just before midnight.
Officers first caught up with the suspect’s vehicle on Grant. The driver then turned onto Offnere and sped up to 60 mph before heading to Waller at speeds of over 70 mph.
Officers notified the Ohio State Patrol and New Boston Police and Greenup County officers before the chase turned onto Gallia. The driver turned back onto Offnere and then onto Waller and up Findlay. The suspect ran red lights on Findlay and Chillicothe before heading towards 5th Street.
Police managed to successfully stop the car in the 700 block of 5th Street.
Officers arranged for a tow for the vehicle and also spoke to the parole officer of a man in the vehicle. The PO placed a verbal hold on the man. He was taken into custody on a parole violation. This was the man’s 11th arrest for parole violations in the past 5 years.
Driving Under The Influence
A Mound Street caller reported a white vehicle with tinted windows driving up and down the street just before 3 am.
Officers arrested a woman for driving under the influence and for an open bench warrant on a previous drug charge.
Suspicious Activity
An 18th Street caller reported seeing strangers inside a home through the windows at 3:39 am. An officer checked the house and said it appeared secure, though there were pry marks on the back door.
The officer had to wait for someone with a key to arrive before they went inside and checked the house. Police discovered nothing suspicious in the home.
Smoking with Oxygen
A smoker using an oxygen tank set a mattress on fire at Hudson House just after 4 am. The Portsmouth Fire Department extinguished the blaze.
