Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) will be shutting down its infusion services center as of March 27. An email sent to staff members was obtained by SCDN.
The center provided outpatient services for blood transfusion, hydration, iron infusions, antibiotic therapy, and chemotherapy as well as rabies and tetanus injections.
The message also stated that closing down the hospital was a “complex and fluid process” and that the hospital was working with health care providers to manage decision-making during the shutdown. It also stated that decisions were based on the needs of both patients and employees and that as soon as other decisions were made, they would be shared with employees.
Employees posting in the group expressed concerns about being kept in the dark as to exactly when they would be out of a job. Initially, OLBH’s parent company Bon Secours announced a closing date in the fall. Since then it appears they are working on a timeline that would see the hospital completely close its doors this spring.
Several local healthcare providers, including Southern Ohio Medical Center, King’s Daughters, and Cabell Huntington hospitals have expressed interest in both hiring former OLBH staff and providing healthcare services to former patients.
