In a time when police officers are facing growing criticism, a sweet photo of a Portsmouth Police Officer with a little boy drew praise from the community he serves. The Portsmouth Police Department shared a photo of Officer Chris Dixon with one of his many fans.

Dixon took the time to pose with a three-year-old boy while on patrol. The child’s mother said the encounter made the little boy’s day. But the toddler isn’t Dixon’s only fan. Citizens took to social media to praise the officer.

Cops Cancelled and Criticized

At a time when there are nationwide calls calling for police forces to be defunded and disbanded, citizens showed their love for the officer. This, in the wake of protests about the death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis Police during an arrest for passing a fake bill. Some of those protests have turned violent and led to arson and looting. Local marches, however, proved to be peaceful.

A & E Network pulled episodes of its most popular program, Live PD.  Paramount Network made the controversial decision to cancel the TV show Cops after over 30 years on the air.

A Good Officer

However, Portsmouth citizens have nothing but love for Dixon.  One comment called Dixon “Awesome” and related how he’d helped out a friend’s mother-in-law.

Dixon’s supporters didn’t hesitate to praise him.

  •  “Officer Dixon is a good man!”
  • “Chris Dixon is the man!”
  • “Good man right there!”
  • “Officer Dixon is a great example.”
  • “Officer Dixon is one of the best.”

Other commenters expressed gratitude for his service and that of other officers.

  • “God bless you and keep you safe.”
  • “What a great officer thank you for your service and keeping us safe.”
  • “Thank you for protecting us, officers. Much appreciated.”

And others couldn’t help notice the officer’s impressive biceps. They were hard to miss in his short-sleeved uniform shirt.

  • “Suns out! Guns Out!”
