A dog was killed after attacking an officer and another dog and a woman overdosed after a visit from her son. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
A woman contacted police after she said her boyfriend hit her in the face when they got into an argument over him throwing her stuff out of the house.
She had no visible signs of injury and refused an ambulance. Neither party would give a statement. An officer stood by while she collected her things and left the scene.
At 9:22 pm, a caller reported a man in a green hoodie with gold paint all over his face acting suspiciously near the Scioto County Welcome Center on 2nd Street. Officers could not locate the man, but the Portsmouth Fire Department was able to find him.
A caller reported a man in a white van dragging two children around and a woman in the passenger seat hitting the dashboard just after 9:30 pm. Police were originally unable to locate the people, but found them a few minutes later, took one person into custody, and had the vehicle towed.
A Front Street caller reported a man in a dark coat walking around and looking into parked vehicles at 3 am. He left before the police arrived.
Mom Overdoses after Son Visits
A local nursing home contacted police to report a possible overdose at 11 pm. They said a woman’s son came to visit and they believed he gave her something.
An ambulance transported her to SOMC.
Dog Killed After Attacking Officer, Dog
An officer killed a vicious dog after an incident on Poplar Street.
The trouble started just before 2 pm when a woman walking her boyfriend’s dog on Poplar Street was attacked by a loose dog. The animal ended up attacking and injuring her dog before running off.
When an officer arrived on the scene, it found the loose dog which attempted to attack the officer and was killed.
Residents told police the dog belonged to a drunken person who lived in a camper and did not feed it. Police could not identify the owner. The woman whose dog was bit was advised to contact the health department.
