Two staff members at a local nursing home have tested positive for COVID-19. The owner of the Best Care Nursing facility in Wheelersburg says two team members have tested positive for the virus.

In a statement, the owner said, “We have been in touch with the Ohio Department of Health, as well as officials at the CDC. We are working closely with public health officials to address the situation and are grateful for their assistance. We have been in touch with the loved ones of all those who have been impacted, and will continue to do so on a regular basis.”

The owners say they’ve are doing everything they can to stop the spread of the virus within the facility and will continue to follow CDC guidelines.

Anyone with questions can call the Diversicare Care Line at (888) 508-9774 (choose option Covid19), which is available 24/7 to address your questions.

The Ohio Department of Health reported on Thursday that there were 700 cases of COVID-19 in long-term care facilities like nursing homes and assisted living centers. One of those confirmed cases is at Best Care in Wheelersburg.

I’ve got the update on other COVID-19 related numbers below.

Ohio COVID-19 Numbers

Ohio has topped the 10,000 mark in reported COVID-19 Cases. Updated numbers from the Ohio Department of Health on Saturday afternoon show 10,222 probable cases of COVID-19 in the state.

The latest report says 451 people died from the virus.  Keep in mind that most of these cases were contracted weeks ago. The numbers are added as test results come back.

Scioto County Numbers

Currently, the Scioto County Health Department is reporting six cases in the county. However, the state Coronavirus website is showing seven. If you’ll remember, last weekend there was also a conflict between the state and county officials over the number of positive cases locally.

Scioto County Health Commissioner, Dr. Mike Martin, expressed frustration with the way cases were reported  to the his department. At Tuesday’s Scioto County Commissioners meeting, he complained of cases being reported to the press before they were reported to his department.

So far 2,519 people are hospitalized with 760 admitted to the ICU.

COVID-19 in Prisons

Ohio’s prisons reported 692 positive tests. There are no reported cases at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville.

The Governor ordered last week that information about the number of COVID-19 cases in Ohio’s nursing home be posted publicly. However, as of Saturday afternoon, that section of the website seems to have disappeared . Governor DeWine expressed privacy concerns about reporting cases connected to particular facilities.

Local COVID-19 Numbers

The state’s Coronavirus count in neighboring counties stands at:

  • Adams County – 3
  • Gallia County – 6
  • Jackson County – 4
  • Lawrence County – 20
  • Pike County – 1

Kentucky

  • Greenup County – 10
  • Boyd County – 28

Ohio plans to slowly come out of lockdown starting on May 1st. But in order for that to happen hospitalization for COVID-19 will need to remain flat or decrease for 14 days prior.
