Susan Compton Stahl: “This is just devastating. I worked with her in Morehead and have wonderful memories. This is so sudden.”

Mike Nelson: “One of my longtime friends in the radio biz is gone. I will miss you Mistie Cook Spicer. You helped me so much during my early days of learning how to read radio copy and reminding me to “talk to the audience, not talk at them”. Thank you for your hard work in keeping listeners entertained and informed. You will be missed!”

Our sincere condolences to her son, Ben Spicer. He wrote “I can’t believe I’m posting this right now but today I lost my Mom. There aren’t enough words to describe how much she meant to me or meant to some of you all – you would need a whole library to tell her story. I spent my life trying to make her proud and hope I was able to do that. She taught me everything I know: compassion, selflessness, and working hard. I don’t think there was ever a day of her life after I was born that she didn’t spend trying to do something to make me happy – and she did. I’m so thankful I got to see her this week and am so thankful to have had the best Mom possible for 26 years of my life. I’ll never forget you Mistie Cook Spicer and everything I do just know from here on out that it’s always for you! I love you!”

MJ Godfrey: “I am very saddened by the loss of Mistie Cook Spicer. She knew the depth of her importance to me as our relationship developed more in-depth in the last few years as she asked me to give Portsmouth and SSU another chance. She cared. I can’t even begin to say all that I want to as I feel mostly speechless. I couldn’t even comment yesterday. Portsmouth, you lost someone who truly cared. You lost one of the few seriously genuine public individuals you have. I hope you realize that and step up your game in her honor and memory.”

‎Chuck Mraz: “So very sorry to hear of this. Mistie was the News Director at WMKY-FM back in 1988-89. I was the Sports Director at that time. I was always impressed with her professionalism and the way she worked with our news department’s students. She was also a wonderful person. My prayers go out to her family.”

#CHOOSEYOURPORTSMOUTH and Mistie certainly did that on and off the air. She will be missed by many. The SCDN family offers sincere condolences to her family.
