Michael W. Bretz, 73, of South Shore, Kentucky went to be with his Lord and Savior, May 10, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Michael was born in West Portsmouth, Ohio, on Nov. 22, 1947, a son of the late Winston G. Bretz and Mondalee Ratliff Bretz. Michael was a member of the Bible Chapel Church in West Portsmouth, Ohio, a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam War, a retired Carman from Norfolk Southern Railroad. He loved to Deer hunt and spend time with his family.
Preceded in death besides his parents are one sister, Charlotte Starrett.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Holbrook Bretz, two sons, Todd Bretz of Portsmouth, Ohio, Kevin (Rhea) Bretz of Grayson, Kentucky, one sister, Debra (Clifton) May of South Shore, Kentucky, two best friends, Ishmel Howard and Maurice VanBibber and many extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021 at the Roberson Funeral Home in South Shore, Kentucky with Brother Jack Lore, officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, Grayson, Kentucky. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 till 8 p.m. on Thursday and one hour before the service time on Friday. Due to Covid restrictions face covering and social distancing will be required. Military Graveside services will be by the James Dickey American Legion Post 23, Portsmouth, Ohio. Serving as Pallbearers will be Clifton May, Brian May, Marc May, Keith Glispie, Bob Howard and Mike Stephenson, Honorary Pallbearers will be Kevin Glispie and Jason VanBibber.
