Man Waves Gun on Gallia Street

Portsmouth Police responded to reports of a man waving a gun on Gallia Street and a son threatening his mom with a knife. Plus, they continued their crusade against abandoned cars, citing 13 vehicles in two hours.  We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police reports.

Portsmouth Police Reports: Child in Danger

1. Tearing It Up

Just after midnight police received a report of a man tearing up a 7th Street home and making threats. When police arrived, both the man and woman on the scene said it was only a verbal altercation. The man agreed to leave for the night.

2. Suspicious Behavior

A caller reported a suspicious character checking cars in the lot of Bridgeport rehab just after 4:30 am. Police checked the area but could not find the suspect.

3. Threats With A Knife

A woman told police her son threatened her with a knife and was blocking her way just after 4:40 am. When officers arrived on the scene, the parties said the argument was verbal and no direct threats were made.

The mom said she only wanted her phone back and for her son to go to bed.

4. Missing Lottery Tickets

The Jenkins Sunoco Service Center reported a missing book of lottery tickets. The tickets have been gone since May and are worth about $500.

The caller did not believe the items were stolen. It’s thought they were lost or never received.

5. Flat Tires and Tarps

    • At 11:03 am, officers cited two vehicles with flat tires parked on Vinton Avenue.
    • A few minutes later, they marked a tarped vehicle on Highland Avenue that appears to have been there quite some time.
    • Less than 10 minutes after that, Officers cited another vehicle with flat tires on Grant Street. That car has also been in the same spot for some time.
    • At 11:17 am, an officer found another vehicle with flat tires on Grant Street and also cited it.
    • Police found three more vehicles on Lincoln Street at 11:22 am that have been immobile for some time. At least one had flat tires.
    • At 11:46, they cited a vehicle on Mary Ann Street with the exhaust on the ground and rocks under the back tires to keep it from moving.
    • About an hour later, officers responded to High Street for a report of a vehicle parked in front of a residence for a week.
    • At 12:58 pm, they marked another vehicle with a flat tire in the 1800 block of High Street
    • Two more vehicles were marked for flat tires on Grandview just after 1 pm.



6. Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • At 11:16 am, a Farney Avenue resident reported he came home and found his house broken into. Several items were missing. Police took information for a report.
  • A woman called police to report a stolen phone at 5:40 pm. An officer located it in her bag.
  • A 17th Street caller told police a man was on their porch attempting to sell stolen goods to his family. Police advised him to move along.

7. Troubled Teen

Another report of someone tearing up a home came in at 1 pm. This time on Wayne Avenue with a teenage girl as the culprit. The mom reported the girl threatened to harm herself. The girl told police she didn’t want to harm herself.

Police were called back to the scene at 4:32 pm. They contacted CPS and called an ambulance for the girl.

8. Welfare Check

  • A worried daughter asked police to check on her 93-year-old mom just after 1 pm. She always calls her daughter by noon but had made no call that day. She did not answer her phone, either. A neighbor let police in. Officers discovered the woman fell down without her Life Alert fob. She was okay.
  • Another request for a welfare check at 3:19 pm on Grandview Avenue. A friend hadn’t heard from the resident in a few weeks and was concerned.  Police discovered the man was in KDMC having surgery.

9. Under The Influence

  • Offices answered a call to Park Apartments for an apparently intoxicated older man acting strangely. Police said he’d had a few drinks and told him to go back to his room.
  • Officers responded to a report of an overdose on Kendall Avenue at 7:40 pm.
  • A caller reported an overdosed man on Summit Street at 11:02 pm. An ambulance took the man to the hospital.



10. Love and War

Gallia Street’s favorite star-crossed lovers once again called the police to settle a dispute. The male half of the couple complained the woman was on his property.

She told police he invited her over to give her a phone. He denied it. Police advised both to behave.

11. Get Off My Porch

A Highland Avenue resident reported a man refused to leave his porch. By the time police arrived, the man had left.

12. Gun To The Head

Officers responded to a scary call just after 5:30 pm. A caller reported a man in camo pants waving a gun around and putting it to his head on Gallia Street.

Police said the gun turned out to be an Airsoft. Officers discovered there was a valid warrant for the man. Police took him into custody.

13. Drug Money From A Mom

A frightened mom called the police at 8:30 pm to report her son. He was outside her door demanding money for drugs. The son attempted to kick in the door the previous day.
