Man Threatens Dogs With Metal Pole

Portsmouth, Ohio- A suspicious character threatens dogs with a metal pole, a man wants police backup to break up with his girlfriend, and a customer gets comfy on the counter at Speedway. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Break-up Backup

A man called police screaming and yelling to complain about a woman in his 7th Street home at 4:04 am. Three units responded to the scene and discovered that a man wanted his girlfriend to leave their home due to an argument.

However, she’d lived there for a year and police told the man they could not force the woman to leave. If he wanted her to leave, he needed to start eviction proceedings.

The man didn’t like what the police had to tell him and left the scene in a huff.

Another Night, Another Noise Call

Officers were once again called back to a Kendall Avenue apartment for a noise complaint. Noise complaints about this apartment have become almost a daily occurrence.

As usual, when police arrived on the scene at 4:12 am, there was no noise.

Customer Lays On Counter

Police responded to Speedway for a report of a camo-clad customer who refused to leave the store when asked.

An employee said the man was laying on top of the counter. When she asked him to get off, he got rude. The man left before the police arrived.

Grand Theft Auto

Just after 6 am, a 24th Street caller reported a stolen Honda van. Police took information for a report.

Helping the Homeless

A caller told police a woman sitting on a bench on the Scioto Trail told them she’d been beaten up. The woman also said she was homeless and had to place to go.

Police took the woman to the 17th Street homeless shelter.

Suspicious Activity

A High Street caller reported the front door of a condemned house was open and people were going in and out of both the front and back door. Police detained a man with a warrant from Portsmouth Municipal Court.

Kids In Danger?

CPS contacted police at 11 am to report an alarming call to their hotline. A woman told them children were sex-trafficked for drugs at a Dexter Street Address.  Police said that address did not exist.

Gun at Mound Park

A woman called police at noon to report two men approached her son at Mound Park the day before. The boy told his mom one of the men had a gun.

He told police the two men asked him questions.

Man Threatens Dogs With Metal Pole

Just before 2 pm, a caller reported a bald man with a pole hitting fences and threatening dogs.

Police caught up with him in the 1800 block Waller.  He told police he was waiting on a ride to Franklin Furnace.

Police warned him not to threaten anyone or use the pole in any illegal way.

DOA

Police responded to 29th Street for a report of a dead body at 4 pm. A family friend discovered the deceased man.

Police contacted the next of kin and the coroner. The coroner released the body to the funeral home.

Suspicious Activity

Just after 2:30 pm, a caller reported someone lying on the ground in Tracy Park.

At 5:54 pm, a caller reported a shirtless man slumped over on the levy behind Buffalo Wild Wings. Police discovered a man they have frequent contact with. An ambulance transported him to the hospital for treatment.

Under The Influence

Just after 11:30 pm, a caller reported an apparently high man and woman in a vehicle on Robinson Avenue.

Police detained the subjects and discovered they had open warrants from NBPD and the Sheriff’s Office.
