In what’s becoming an increasingly common occurrence in the area, a man overdosed in the Taco Bell bathroom, plus officers dealt with a body spray thief at the Family Dollar. We break down the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Suspicious Activity
- Officers responded to a report of someone in the play area of Mound Park just before 1 am. Police found two juveniles and dropped them both back home in Wayne Hills after speaking to their parents.
- A Vinton Avenue neighbor contacted police at 4:15 pm to report a man wrapped in a blanket on her neighborsâ front porch. The neighbors werenât home. Police took the man into custody due to an active warrant from Portsmouth Municipal Court.
Slashed Tires
- At 10:16 am, a Franklin Avenue caller reported slashed tires on a vehicle. Officers took information for a report.
- Forty minutes later, a Thomas Avenue caller also reported slashed tires. Police took information for a report.
Under the Influence
- Once again, officers responded to a report of an overdose victim in a restaurant bathroom. This time at the Taco Bell on Gallia. An ambulance transported the man to the hospital.
- Worried employees from the Salvation Army Family Store contacted police in regards to some white powder that fell off some money. They wanted the money tested to see if they were in danger from exposure. Police told them to contact the fire department.
- At 9:24 pm, police responded to a report of a man lying face down on the sidewalk in the 2900 block of Gallia. Police could not locate the man.
Hey! Thatâs My Stuff
- A railroad conductor contacted police at 3:33 pm to report someone stole a GPS device from a train. The conductor said the device was pinging at a Summit Street address. Police located the item at the address in question and returned it to the conductor.
- Just after 5 pm a woman reported her purse stolen from the Post Office. Officers checked the security cameras in the facility but the theft was not captured on video.
- An employee at the Family Dollar on 11th Street reported an unusual crime at 8:28 pm. A woman in the store sprayed herself with body spray and then put it back. The employee advised the woman, she needed to pay for it since she used it. The customer got into an argument with the manager over paying and left the premises. Officers told employees to notify them if the woman returns and theyâll issue a âno trespass’ order.
Domestic Disturbance
At 6:11 pm, police responded to a report of a domestic incident on 6th Street. A man said that a woman who took out a restraining order against him showed up to harass him. He was attempting to sleep in his vehicle as he canât go home due to the protective order.
Police said the woman tried to leave when police arrived. Police cited her for driving under a suspended license and impounded her vehicle.
Unruly Teen
A 17th Street Mom contacted police at 6:49 to report her son was acting unruly due to a missing phone charger.
Caught in the Act
At 10:16 pm, a caller said two men pulled up in front of the Shawnee Apartments, hopped out of a truck, and started spray painting a vehicle at the scene.
One of the men showed an open warrant. Police released the vandalized truck to the son of the vehicle owner. Officers discovered the vehicle had fake tags. The tags on that vehicle actually belonged to one of Community Actionâs vehicles.
An officer put the tags back on the correct vehicle.
