Officers responded to a murder-suicide threat, plus explained some hard facts about traffic rules after an accident. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing
Car/Bicycle Accident
At 1:30 pm, a driver contacted officers to report a woman riding a bike hit the back of her car. She said she was pulling away from a stop sign on Young Street and a woman traveling westbound on Gallia hit her vehicle.
When an officer advised the driver that she would be at fault in the accident as she was the one pulling away from the stop sign, she declined to make a report.
Teens Causing Trouble
Officers spoke with a driver who reported some teenagers causing trouble on Dorman Drive just before 4 m. She said she was driving when a car full of kids drove by and threw objects at her car.
She reported no damage to her and gave officers a description of the other car and its teenage occupants.
Man Threatens Murder/Suicide
A frighting situation at a 17th Street Apartment. A caller told police a man with a gun was in the home and threatened to shoot her and himself.
Four units responded to the call. Police impounded one item and then arrested the man for aggravated menacing.
The man was released from jail on a recognizance bond that same day.
Doing Drugs at Grandma’s House
The manager of a Bihlman Drive property asked police to bar a man from his grandmother’s home. He said the man is not on the lease, and there’s a whole lot of drug activity going on.
The manager asked officers to meet at their office and then accompany him to the apartment. Police advised the manager about the options for barring the individual.
Woman Says Parents Won’t Let Her Leave
A woman contacted police just before 8 pm to report her parents would not let her leave the home.
Officers responded to the scene and arranged for an ambulance to transport the 18-year-old to the hospital for evaluation.
Suspicious Activity
A Gallia Street caller contacted police at 8:28 pm to report a woman attempting to stop vehicles. She suspected the woman was a prostitute. However, the woman left before the police arrived.
Frank & Steins Lounge called police at 9:30 pm to report a man sleeping in a booth. The man refused to leave when asked. Police took the man into custody.
