A man was airlifted to the hospital after he was hit by a car and a crash nearly took out a power pole. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Crash Takes Out Power Pole
Just before 5:30 am, a vehicle crashed into a parked van, seriously damaging an AEP pole on Gallia Street.
Police could not tow the vehicles until after AEP fixed the pole because the power company feared it would fall over. Police were finally able to tow the vehicles just before 9 am. Officers cited the vehicle driver for the crash.
Suspicious Activity
A caller reported a man acting strangely at the Desco Drive-Thru just before 7 am. The caller reported a man with two backpacks messing around the ATM. The man left before the police arrived.
H & R Block on the Scioto Trail reported a group of homeless people causing problems in front of the building at 9:15 am. Officers spoke to a homeless man, and he agreed to leave the premises.
A fellow who was previously barred from Speedway showed up at the store just before noon. Officers took him into custody.
A caller contacted police at 10:54 pm to report a man in brown coveralls sitting near the pharmacy at Kroger. He refused to leave when an employee asked him to leave. He left when advised by officers.
Missing Nephew
A worried aunt contacted the police to report her nephew missing. She said he was last seen at Kroger.
Police told her to come to the station to file a written report.
Break-in on Coolidge Avenue
A man contacted police at 12:32 pm to report he came home and found his Coolidge Street home broken into.
The officer said the home is condemned and in terrible condition. The man had not been inside the house for four weeks.
Police said the man planned to provide them with a list of missing property.
Hey, That’s My Stuff
Just before 5 pm, a 4th Street caller said he left his vehicle unlocked, and someone broke in and stole several items. Police took information for a report.
Man Threatens to Shoot Brother
A Summit Street caller contacted officers at 7 pm to report he confronted his brother at their mother’s home.
He claimed his brother threatened to shoot him. The man made arrangements to meet officers on Summit Street but later called back to say he no longer needed help.
Man Hit By Car, Airlifted to Hospital
An air ambulance transported a man to the hospital after he was hit by a Gray S10 on Chillicothe Street in front of Arby’s just before 8 pm.
A witness reported a fistfight at the scene after the accident. An air ambulance transported the victim to St. Mary’s Hospital.
