John McHenry is the Democratic candidate currently running for the position of Scioto County Commissioner against the incumbent Commissioner, Cathy Coleman. Scioto County Daily News’ reporters Evan Green and Betty Smith both had the opportunity to speak with McHenry in separate interviews.Â
McHenry begins by explaining his past work experience, and how as a clinical psychologist and attorney, he has spent his whole life helping individuals, and he now wants to expand that help to the 75,000 residents of Scioto County.Â
One of John’s main speaking points in both interviews was the need for reformation within the Scioto County Children’s Services system. He points out the deaths of two children over the last year and a half that are shining examples of why the system is currently broken and requires major reform. He also states that the current Commissioners have neglected this crisis to an unacceptable extent.
Despite the competitive nature of this election, McHenry does acknowledge the efforts of the current Commissioners to get Scioto County out of the fiscal emergency it was in, but he states that since that emergency is over, the time of these Commissioners is over, and it is time for them to pass the torch onto someone new that can deal with the County’s drug and foster care crises.
John McHenry is a kind and hard-working man with many reforms he plans on bringing to the table if he is elected. He faces a tough election in November that will have strong implications for the future of the County.
