Our lives have changed a lot in the past year, and we’ve had to adjust our daily expectations for our new realities. Many of us are staying indoors much more than we used to and having to find ways to make the time pass that doesn’t include staring at Netflix all day long. If you’re an outdoorsy, social kind of person, this can be a tricky issue to figure out. To help those who need a few ideas, we’ve come up with a guide on how to stave off boredom during the quarantine.

Start a New Hobby

Now is a fantastic time to pick up a new hobby. It’s a perfect way to make the time pass by without feeling like you’re wasting that time. There are a plethora of options to choose from: painting, knitting, playing an instrument, journaling, or even just playing video games with friends are all options that will make you feel like the time you spend on them isn’t wasted.

Choose an Outdoor Activity

Whether you’re exercising, gardening, or just enjoying the scenery, it’s important to get out of the house when you can. Staying cooped up in your home isn’t just boring—it can actually have detrimental effects on your mental wellbeing. Getting some fresh air and sunshine, no matter what the temperature is, will help you reset your brain and feel better about where you are.

Try Some Online Volunteer Work

If your boredom stems from a lack of purpose or meaning, you can create that meaning for yourself by getting involved in your community. There are plenty of ways to offer your services online will help fight off boredom and make you feel like you’re making a difference. In a time when we could all use a little more control, you can take control of how you help others in times of need.

Reach Out To Those Around You

It’s important to remember that whatever you’re going through, you’re not alone in it. There are many people, including people you know and love, who are also going through this. Reaching out just to talk to people is nerve-wracking for some and easy for others, but you should know that it is rarely an unwelcome gesture. Catch up with your friends and family; maybe even plan some activities that you could do together. You’ll start to feel a lot more connected and centered.

Hopefully, we’ve given you some ideas for how to stave off boredom during the quarantine. Although these times are difficult, we can sometimes be our own worst enemies if we get too complacent. Check-in with yourself, and decide how you’ll manage the time that you have.
