How to Get Your Business on Google Maps

Search engines – Google, Yahoo, Bing – are powered by your computer’s web browser. In other words, if someone Googles the name of your business, your website is one of the top few results, even if the name is spelled wrong.

You can get your business name on Google Maps by adding it to Google My Business Listing, a free tool that businesses can use to add Google reviews, photos, and other info to their listings.

This free tool includes Google Maps listings and allows you to add your own information, like addresses, telephone, hours, etc. It even provides a handy way to share your Google Maps listing with others, including prospective customers, via email, text message, or even a Facebook wall.
Google Maps offers two ways to add your business:

Step #1: Link to Google My Business

To add your business to Google Maps, you need to know the following:

Location: Where is your business located? Google knows the address of your business, but that’s not enough. Put in your business address on Google Maps. Next, hit “Search Business Info.” Now, select “Search Maps.”

Address: Take a screenshot of the current or previous Google Maps view. Upload your screenshot to My Business Listing.

Phone: Open the Google My Business app. Tap the menu on the left-hand side, and tap “Add a Phone.” Follow the on-screen instructions to attach the address of your business, then provide your phone number. Then, simply select “Add to list.”

Hours: Open the Google My Business app. Tap the menu on the left-hand side, and tap “Add Business Info.” Select the “Hours & Closing Times” section. Type in the current business hours, and select “Existing” if they’re not set to an outdoor sign. Enter a description. Tap “Done.”

Address: Go to My Business Listing. Enter the full address of your business, including the street number, city and state, and zip code. Go to “Search Maps” and click “Edit business.” Select “Edit” at the top right-hand side, then tap “Add address” to attach your existing address. “Select map” to find your location. Tap “Save” and then click “Done.”

It’s very exciting when you see your business appear on Maps. It will now work with GPS. You can tell your friends and clients to just say your business name into the GPS, and it will bring them right to your door.

Step #2: Add a photo to Google My Business

To add a photo to Google My Business Listing, visit your business, and then open the Google My Business app. Tap the menu on the left-hand side, and tap “Edit Business Info.” Select “Edit My Business Info” from the top right-hand side, then select “Edit my business photo.”

Choose a photo that depicts your business. It should be one of the photos on your Facebook profile, website, or advertising. Select it, and then tap “Done.”

How to upload your photo

Create a new photo with a small amount of text, then upload it to your My Business Listing. Upload your photo to Facebook or Instagram and let friends, family, or others follow your photo. Facebook can be added through the “Edit Business Info” page.

All you need to do is make sure your business is searchable on Google Maps by sharing your business details with people via Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms. People will search for your business name on Google Maps.
