Officers responded to a report of a pistol-packing SOMC employee and a husband who was not happy that a local nursing home wanted his wife to leave. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Weapon Reported at SOMC
Southern Ohio Medical Center Security contacted officers to report they had confiscated a firearm from an employee.
Police assisted by escorting the employee off hospital property, at which time officers returned the weapon to the employee without incident.
Stolen Identity
A caller contacted officers just after noon to report someone had put electric service in their name at a Winchester Avenue house.
The caller did not live at that address. Officers took information for a report.
Suspicious Activity
At 12:36 pm, a caller reported a woman attempting to get out of a moving vehicle at 3rd and Market. The woman threw a shoe out the window. Police notified the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office of the incident and headed to the scene. The vehicle was gone before officers arrived. The witness said video of the incident, as well as the woman’s shoe was available if police needed it.
Nursing Home Wants Woman Out, Husband Not Happy
Officers responded to a local nursing home after employees were worried about how a husband reacted to their decision to release his wife from the facility.
The facility asked an officer to stand by while the patient was released. They said he was waiting in the lobby and not happy that the facility chose to release his wife from care.
An officer said he left the area without incident.
Yoga Fan Refuses to Leave Aldi Parking Lot
Employees at Aldi reported an apparently high man in the parking lot just before 6 pm.
Officers said the man did not appear to be intoxicated. He told them he simply enjoys doing yoga in the Aldi parking lot. He further advised officers that he knew he didn’t have any open warrants.
Kids Jump On Car
Wayne Avenue resident contacted police at 6:33 pm to report that several neighborhood kids jumped on her vehicle.
She said she spoke to the parents of the children and did not wish to file criminal charges. Officers spoke to the parents as well.
