Greenup County Schools Superintendent Traysea Moresea sat down with students to answer their questions about what’s happening in the school system. The Sit Down with the Superintendent program is posted to YouTube and gives student hosts a chance to tell Superintendent Moresea what’s on their minds.
In the most recent episode, the young hosts were curious as to what prompted a recent drug search at their school.
When asked if there was a specific incident that caused officials to look for drugs, Moresea said there wasn’t. According to Moresea, “We had a couple of concerns. My hope with a drug search is that we are preventative more so that trying to be punitive.”
“The true goal is to send the strong message that
we are going to have these searches.”
Moresea explained that no particular students were targeted and that, in fact, she had hoped that they wouldn’t catch anyone with drugs. She said the purpose of the search was to send a message that drugs were just not welcome at the school.
The goal, she said, is to create a safe environment for all students. “Those of you that don’t want to be around it, you’re in a place where you don’t have to deal with it.”
The Greenup County Schools Superintendent also fielded questions about snow days, technology in the classroom, improving math scores, and school security.
