Drag racers on Gallia crashed into a driver and took off, and detectives investigated a report of a child sexual assault. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Helping Out the Hospital
The SOMC Emergency Department asked officers to track down a man to give him some important test results. When police went to the address he provided to the hospital, the residents said he did not live at that address.
The residents said they would advise him to call the hospital if they ran into him.
Under the Influence
Just before 9 am, a caller reported an impaired woman in a white Impala at the 6th Street Carryout. They said she’d been there for over an hour. The woman left shortly before officers arrived. An officer found a needle on the ground near where the vehicle was parked. Police disposed of the needle.
At 10 am, a caller reported a man staggering around near Highland Bend Bridge. A witness described a man in a filthy brown coat with a goatee. Police spoke with the man, who had been previously warned by the Sheriff’s Office that they’d arrest him if they had to contact him again. An officer arrested the man for drunken and disorderly conduct.
Ripped Off While at Rehab?
Officers responded to a call from a local treatment center at 12:30 pm. A patient told police someone told her that people were breaking into her Robinson Avenue apartment while she was in treatment.
Police checked the area and found the apartment secure, with no sign of forced entry.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
A Kendall Avenue caller contacted officers at 12:44 pm to report someone broke into her vehicle and stole her stereo. Police took information for a report.
Child Sex Assault Reported
A mother came to the Portsmouth Police Department at 2 pm, accompanied by her child, to file a report.
She said the child was sexually assaulted several years previously. Police took information for a report.
Drag Racers Hit and Run
Just before 3 pm, a drag racer crashed into an older driver on Gallie Street. Officers said an orange Mustang and a “crotch rocket” were racing when one of them hit an older driver in a Chevy Equinox. The motorcycle rider jumped off his bike, hopped into the Mustang, and fled towards Sciotoville.
Police arranged to have the vehicle towed and took information for a crash report.
