A disabled Portsmouth, Ohio couple managed to fight off a man with a long arrest record. He terrified the couple when he kicked in their door while running from Portsmouth Police.
Larry Craft, 36, who has at least 17 previous arrests and is currently on parole, first took off running from police near the Young Street Overpass. Not surprising, since he currently had an open warrant.
He was spotted in the 2100 block of Vermont, and next showed up at the Center Street home of a disabled couple. Craft kicked in the door of the couple’s home.
The man who lives in the home spoke to SCDN. He said he almost managed to grab Craft and their bulldog bit him twice. The resident threw a chair at him and picked up a machete to fend him off. He says his wife hit Craft with her cane. “It was a very scary situation to say the least.”
Officers took him into custody just a few doors down. Police charged Craft with a parole violation, burglary, and obstructing official business.
The burglary charge is a felony, and Craft could face up to 8 years in jail if convicted. Officers arrested him in April of last year for a parole violation charge. He has a long arrest record for crimes like domestic violence, theft, parole violation, drug possession, driving under the influence, and breaking and entering.
Craft is currently in the Scioto County Jail.
