Deputies came to the aid of a homeless man in sad shape around 9:30 pm. A caller reported a man pushing a buggy walking in the middle of Gallia Pike in the dark.
Deputies believed it was a man who walked away from a local rehab center; however, the center refused to give officers any information about the man. They would only say he was an elderly man using a walker.
An officer caught up with him at the BP on Gallia Pike. He told the deputy he was attempting to contact his sister, and he had no intention of going back to the rehab center.
Deputies were unable to reach the man’s sister in Wellston. They said the man was in no condition to be walking down the road in the dark. Deputies then attempted to get him housing for the night in a homeless shelter.
Officers then decided to help the man get back to Wellston. They contacted Lawrence County Deputies, who agreed to meet them at the county line and drive the man closer to Jackson. After they transferred him to Lawrence County deputies, the man began to experience chest pains. An ambulance transported him to St. Mary’s ER.
