Scioto County has shut some county offices to the public in an effort to slow the surge of COVID-19. Health Departments reported 626 new cases of the virus in the county last week and 5 additional deaths.
Commissioners announced the temporary restrictions to public offices on Monday, December 14.  They suspended public office hours for:
  • The Scioto County Auditor
  • Scioto County Treasurer
  • Scioto County Recorder
According to commissioners, the offices will be closed to the public until further notice.  However, the offices will be staffed. Workers can take phone calls and process any documents received in the mail. Commissioners asked citizens to make use of the websites for these offices whenever possible.  Commissioners said, “We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work together to serve you as safely and effectively as possible throughout the COVID-19 threat.”

Current COVID Count

Scioto County’s COVID deaths now stand at 38.  EMA Director Larry Mullins said a 69-year-old man died Thursday and an 84-year-old woman passed on Saturday. Scioto County Commissioner Mike Crabtree is among those lost to the virus. Scioto County saw 157 new COVID cases reported over the weekend.

The new cases bring the total to 3,307 since the start of the outbreak. There are currently 1,225 active cases in the county.

The ODH reported 95 additional recoveries for the county this weekend, bringing the number of recoveries to 2,044 over the course of the pandemic

Scioto County remains at Level Three or “Red” on the Ohio Department of Health’s Public Health Advisory System (PHAS). The county met the same 3 out of 7 indicators that it met last week.

Mullins pointed out that while a deceased may have tested positive for COVID-19, that doesn’t mean that other medical conditions did not play a part in the death.
