County Approves over $1 Million For Road Slip Repair, $40,000 for Body Cams
ShareTweetEmail

Scioto County Commissioners approved over $1million for slip repairs on two county roads at Thursday’s meeting. Commissioners also allocated over $40,000 for body cams for law enforcement. The business-as-usual meeting was a far cry from last week’s emotional vote to shift the organizational structure of Scioto County Children Services away from a board and place it under the wing of CPS. While last week’s meeting saw many officials moved to tears, this week’s was all about the numbers.

They allotted $332,000 for Clinton Furnace Road. They awarded the bid to DGM Inc. for the project based on the recommendation of the county engineer. W.E. Smith Construction will tackle the $883,000 slip repair project on Tick Ridge Koenig Road. Additionally, commissioners had meetings scheduled later in the day to discuss bids for the Hammerstein & Barlow extension and two other road projects.

Thanks to grants from the state, officers of the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office will have body-worn cameras to protect both them and the public. The commissioners accepted grants totaling over $40,000 to pay for the body cams and the infrastructure to maintain them.

The county put up $5,000 in matching funds for the project. Portsmouth Police also applied for and received similar grants.

Commissioner Scottie Powell said, “We appreciate Sheriff Thoroughman for going after these grants.”

Commissioner Bryan Davis agreed, “I’m glad we are in a position to help our men and women in blue. We already do this at the solid waste district. I’ll echo what you said about thanking Sheriff Throroughman.”
