A man made a tragic discovery just before 11:30 am in West Portsmouth. The man contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to say that he discovered his friend unresponsive on the floor of a Dry Run Road home. He feared the friend was deceased.

When medics arrived on the scene, they declared the man dead. The family requested that a funeral home pick up the deceased. The funeral home transported the body.

Later that evening, deputies were called back to the home when a neighbor reported several people had arrived and the home and were walking around inside. The caller said she’d already contacted the dead man’s family, who were on the way to the scene.

When a deputy arrived on the scene, the individuals said they had purchased items from the deceased and were there to collect them.

Officers were able to contact the man’s caretaker who said that the deceased man frequently had people who would stay at the property and that he may have had an agreement to sell items.

Officers advised the people they could no longer stay at the property or collect anything inside the residence. They were told to pursue property claims through probate court.

An officer turned the deceased’s truck keys over to his sister.
