Last year, the Scioto Foundation awarded $478,000 in scholarships. But — get this– $100,000 in scholarship money just sat there because no qualified students applied or the students didn’t claim their money.

If you’re a student in Scioto, Greenup, Adams, Pike, Lawrence, or Jackson County, don’t be afraid to apply because you think there’s too much competition.

The Foundation has multiple scholarships available and they’ve added six brand-new ones this year. The new scholarships are the Amy M. Keating Scholarship, the Dr. Charles Wilson Memorial Scholarship, the Eileen Pollard Bapst Education Scholarship, the Feagans Scholarship, the Mamie Brisker Pettit Memorial Scholarship, and the Scioto County Suicide Prevention Scholarship.

To help encourage students to apply, the Scioto Foundation has opened its scholarship application process early this year. Grants and Scholarship Coordinator Ginnie Moore said, “The application has opened earlier this year to give students a chance to work on it during Christmas break.”

Scholarships are available for both graduating seniors and those already attending college.
Students must also submit two letters of recommendation: One from a school faculty member and one from a member of the community. Some scholarships require additional letters.

The deadline for submitting your applications is March 18, 2020. The deadly for submitting letters of recommendation is before 5 pm on March 22, 2020.

If you have questions, contact Ginnie Moore at (740) 354-4612 or send an email to ginnie@thesciotofoundation.org.
